Alfred was beaming. He could be a pleasant person when he wanted to be with relative ease, so he did just that. The blond put on his most charming smile whilst greeting the principal, as well as the secretary that would escort him to his first period class. His gaze wandered about the halls. It was almost a strange reception, because he remembered his previous experience with being a new student—which had been his first—and it hadn’t been quite as warm. He could already tell that he’d enjoy being enrolled here, hands down, even though it was school. As he was musing over this, his escort interrupted his thoughts once they’d arrived to tell him in a hushed tone that he should be just in time for attendance. She went on to tell him that he should ease his way right in, and Alfred offered yet another charming smile and a small wave as she adjusted a clipboard in her arms and stated pattering down the hallway, bound back to her business. Following suit, he lifted his somewhat slumped shoulders and directed his gaze toward the door, exhaling through his nose before opening it. He made sure to be a little less rowdy than usual in doing so, of course. Alfred had been expecting everyone to look up at him when he entered the room, but much to his surprise, the students were preoccupied with their pre-class goofing. Only the teacher seemed to be interested in him, but that was his job, he supposed. Regardless, he renewed the same smile he’d been sporting since he entered the building and walked over to the man’s desk. “Um, hey there. I’m the new student.” He greeted, raising his voice a bit so as to be heard over the chatter. “I’m Alfred Jones. I was told I’d be squared away and on the roster already.”The teacher returned the greeting, reaching out and shaking his hand with a spark of enthusiasm. It was then that the man pulled up a seating chart from underneath his papers, looking as if he were trying to work out placing for him. In the meanwhile, the American looked around the room. It took him a moment to notice exactly who was sitting in the back row, but he definitely wasn’t mistaken. Alfred managed to contain his brimming excitement, but he couldn’t just as well contain the grin that spread across his face. Boy, did he luck out!

So far, the day had been going just as it had been for the past month. Although classes only started a couple days of ago, it was the same drone of time that Matthew had fallen into since moving to the United Kingdom for this school. He had managed to make a couple friends within this time, which was a vast improvement over social life at home. In fact, the blond could honestly say that he was happy with his current situation.
Well, if it weren't for one simple problem. Or rather, not so simple.
They say distance makes the heart grow fonder. And while it might not have been said as a terms to describe anything but love, Matthew found it oddly fitting. No matter how much he might have wanted to leave at the time, there were certain things he missed about home.
He missed that old house that dad was so fond of. Even if they could have easily moved into something more modern, he preferred it. He missed his room and, oddly enough, the kitchen. But, above all else, Matthew missed his family. Somewhat ironic, he thought to himself as he pulled the rather large text book out of his bag.
Almost instantly, Matthew started reading the book. Drowning out the noise around him. Another part of life he was getting used to. He'd sit in the back and wait quietly for class to start. It was rather nice, but, again, it allowed him to become lost in his own thoughts. Sometimes the boy couldn't even concentrate on the actually book and would day-dream instead.
Such was today, like every other day. He didn't even hear the student in the front offer an introduction as the other kids in the room were being a bit rowdy before the session started. [/blockquote]

Alfred couldn’t help but wonder what the dazed look on Matthew’s face was all about. He’d caught his brother daydreaming at times, but not to an extent. At that moment, he seemed almost lonely, sitting in the back of the room quietly like he was.
His aroused demeanor faltered for the slightest moment. Without giving it much thought, the blond looked back to the thoughtful teacher and tapped him on the shoulder, quietly informing him that there was an empty seat in the back he could make himself comfortable in—the very same empty seat that happened to be next to Matthew’s.
Luckily enough, the man had no qualms whatsoever. He simply nodded and instructed him to make himself comfortable, but not too comfortable. Alfred laughed and with a, ‘yes, sir’, he was stuffing one of his hands in his pockets and making his way around the aisles of desks.
Still grinning ear to ear, he settled down more or less quietly in what was proclaimed to be his new seat, turning away from the front of the room when he knew for sure that the teacher was still preoccupied with attendance.
He didn’t have the slightest notion as to why his twin was so spacey, but it would have to be his job to remedy that, wouldn’t it?
“So.” He said, adjusting himself and resting his chin in his hand. “It’s pretty cool here, huh? The accents’ll take some getting used to, but I gotta’ say, I’m kinda’ digging them.”

His thoughts were completely trained on something else entirely. The anatomy of a human body just didn't seem as interesting as whatever blankness the Canadian had in his current mind. Not that Matthew really cared; since class hadn't actually begun as of yet. Still, he even wondered himself what was going on in his own head.
...
He would make sure to nap later.
Matthew was pulled out of his musings, though, when someone sat next to him. That spot had been empty this whole time and the Canadian was for sure that there was nobody who would sit next to him all the back here. And when the other began speaking to him, that made him question even more.
Was he speaking to him? Maybe, maybe not. It would be rude if he didn't answer or at least acknowledge his presence. "W-we'll, it's not that hard to get used to. You'll probably be talking li----" he turned his head towards the 'stranger' half way through his talk and his eyes immediately went wide.
No, this wasn't real...
Out of instinct, Matthew pinched himself, wincing slightly. He wasn't dreaming... So, maybe it was an illusion, then? The blond reached over and pulled on the others cheek. No, it was definitely real. All Matthew could do was simply choke on his words and look completely in awe. [/blockquote]

Alfred found himself sporting a bashful smile, despite himself. It was his first time seeing Matthew in a little more than a month, and he had missed him—a whole lot. It wasn’t like he’d be admitting it any time soon, but he had trouble sleeping knowing his one and only brother was all the way across the pond.
He was suddenly wondering if Matthew had missed him just the same, or if he’d scold him for trailing along behind him. Maybe he’d be too confused or surprised to inquire. The thoughts were strange, sudden and likely overdue, but it was only when their eyes locked that they occurred to him.
Albeit, they were very brief and short-lived thoughts, because the twin whose reaction he was so concerned with was suddenly reacting by tugging on his cheek.
“H-Hey!” He squeaked, reaching up and taking hold of the Canadian’s hand, pulling it away from his face. Though he normally would have reacted with a pout, he had to laugh at the shock written so blatantly across the other’s face. “What the heck was that for?”

Shock was most likely an understatement; Matthew had so many feelings and could not control even a single one. Part of him wanted to shout out his brother's name throughout the whole classroom and run out. Another just wanted him to start tearing up or inquire why the dofus was here in the first place. But, there was one thing that all these emotions had in common: Happiness.
All the Canadian could do was stare at the other as he laughed. It was odd, just awhile ago he had been wondering if maybe it was time to call home and see how everyone was; and now the very person he had been missing was right in front of him.
After a brief moment of confusion, Matthew smiled slightly, wriggling his hand free out of the grasp. "J-just..." he swallowed hard, "making sure it was you." Reaching up that same hand, he pinched Alfred's cheek once more; though a bit lighter and playful, before retracting back. "W-..what are you doing here?" finally, Matthew found himself able to vocalise the question. [/blockquote]

Given, Alfred had still been somewhat nervous, especially when all that Matthew was managing toward him was a shocked stare.
The blond allowed his brother to pinch his cheek a second time. It was more lightly, after all, and something warm, fluffy and familiar stirred inside him as he did so. Finally, he understood what the person who coined the phrase, ‘home is where the heart is’ must have been feeling. It embarrassed him to think much more of it, however, so he simply went on laughing.
“Aw, y’ know, bro.” He began, widened smile not faltering in the slightest. “The usual. Kicking ass, taking names, saving the world. And on top of all of it, I found the time to pack up my things, hop across the Atlantic to chill with you. How crazy is that, huh?”
Here they were, having such a simple conversation, but there wouldn’t have been anything else in the world he’d rather be doing or anywhere he’d rather be. Alfred felt a little silly for thinking like that, but it was true.
