Full Name: Matthew Williams Wildlife and Animals: Lions, and Tigers, and Bears, oh my! Matthew absolutely adores animals. Whales, Seals, Mountan Lions, Bats, the whole lot. However, his number one favorite remains the Polar Bear.
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Height: 5'6"
Weight: He does not like to disclose this information.
Country of Origin: Canada
Family: Alfred F. Jones [Brother]
Student Year/Job Position: Sophomore
Appearance:
Personality: Timid, soft-spoken, and sensitive; Matthew is the epitome of a 'good kid'.
Having a tendency to shy away from those things which make life a living hell-hole; he avoids conflict whenever possible (even at the expense of his own pride.) Despite this, Matthew never seems to have lady luck on his side. Usually in the wrong place at the wrong time; at the recieving end of trouble. Even if said trouble was never his fault to begin with.
Given the chance, Matthew would take a bullet for a complete stranger. His kindness towards others, friends or no, only matched by his sheer stubbornness. And while he loves helping those in need (be it in the form of homework or some friendly advice,) he is usually over-looked for never leaving much of an impression on people. Some would even go so far to say that he was 'invisible' at times. This never deters Matthew's spirits though, and 'putting another before oneself' is a philosphy he holds very dear.
Considered either one of his most endearing or faulty traits, Matthew does not know the meaning of 'taking it easy'. He is constantly looking for things to do and wanting to help his friends in any way possible. This Canadian does not like anyone doing work that he can do himself. He'd much rather his friends be comfortabe and sit around while he takes care of things around the dorm or household (cleaning, shopping, cooking, etc.)
Matt's stubborn streak often comes at the expense of his own health, however. Even if he is completely exhausted, he will take the extra time to make sure everyone else is comfortabe, fed, and in good health before even thinking of tending to himself (if he even does that.) Matthew could be ill and bed-ridden but ould still make attempts to do work around the dorm. Even if he is told to rest and not do chores, he will swiftly change the subject and worm his way into it somehow. A stern scolding is usually the only way to keep him down, but may be met with a few retorts.
While he may sutter quite a bit, this boy does know how to use words to his advantage! If pushed too far, this normally timid Canadian will step up to the plate. Though, not with physical prowess. Matthew is better at picking on everything he can about someone and berating them to the point where there is no room for argument. Naturally for him, he feels pretty lousy afterwards. Sputtering out apologies left and right.
Matthew might not be much of a fighter, but he can be fairly agressive competitively. Getting easily excited and into games, you see a completely different personality more akin to his brother. It can really throw people off-guard considering his usual demeanor.
Deep down, all Matthew really wants is to be recognized as someone in life. To be a person his friends and family can look up to with pride.
Likes:
❤ Astronomy: Once upon a time, Matthew had heard a story about how every person is represented by a star. When a life ends, a star fades away. This story has stuck with the Canadian throughout his life. Countless nights were spent simply looking up at the stars and seeing how many constellations he could call out from memory.
❤ Sports: Being competitive, he enjoys the thrill of a sport. Favorite is hockey; however, he does enjoy a good amount of baseball, football, and badmiton.
❤ Cooking: Moreso, he enjoys cooking for other people. Matthew can easily be found in the kitchen of the dorm room or the home economics room of the academy on slow days.
❤ Snow: Nothing excites the Canadian more than the prospect of snow and seeing the beautiful white flakes coating the ground. There is a sense of peace and tranquility associated with it. Not to mention, if you listen close enough, you can hear it falling.
❤ Maple-Syrup: Anything maple flavoured, really. Matthew has a strange attraction to the sweet liquid.
❤ Reading: Much like snow, the blond finds a sense of peace associated with reading. If he has not been roped into playing a video-game, Matthew can often be found reading a book in the lounge or his room during the evening hours.
❤ Sleep: Often sleep-deprived, Matthew enjoys the moments when he can fall asleep peacefully.[/ul]
Dislikes:
✗ Severe Storms: While being okay with rain, lightning, and thunder. Matthew only seems to get truly scared during severe storms such as tornado like conditions.
✗ Sour Foods: Especially sour candy. The Canadian has low tolerance for anything sour. The flavour doing nothing for his taste-buds.
✗ Invasion of Personal Space: Unless he is familiar with you, Matthew gets incredibly uncomfortable with most physical contact. He likes his space, but will never outwardly admit it to someone unless they go a bit too far.
✗ Change: Above all else, Matthew is afraid of changes in his life. Having lived in a certain rythme for so long, he finds it hard to accept and adapt to new routines.[/ul]
Strengths:
✔ Kindness: Only matched by his sheer-stubborness, the blond is a very kind individual. Matthew wishes nothing more than to see others happy and healthy. If there is a situation in which he is able to help, he'll be quick to offer his assistance.
✔ Problem-Solving: Despite being quite nervous, Matthew is a thinker my nature. Always thinking of a long-term outcome instead of what would be satisfactory for a that single moment in time. As such, he is very well adversed in solving riddles and various other problems.
✔ Observant/Over-Observant: Considered a weakness and a strength, the Canadian is observant of others. He has a habit of picking up changes in his friends and sometimes can become privy when noticing they are upset or something is wrong. This can often lead to trouble for Matthew, however.
✔ Laying Low: Willingly or unwillingly, Matthew does not usually stand out in a crowd.[/ul]
Weaknesses:
✗ No Self-Confidence: Absoutely none. Matthew is unable to see himself in a decent light, constantly believing that he is a hinderance to those around him.
✗ Self-Deprecating: While others may seem amazing in his eyes, Matthew is constantly berating himself. He is usually unable to accept praise with the mindset that he undeserving of such words.
✗ Lying: It goes without saying that Matthew is most likely the worst liar. Constantly darting his eyes away and getting nervous after having lied to someone. It is extremely easy to pick up on one his lies.
✗ Stuttering: While it may be considered more of a flauw than a weakness, it does hinder his speech at times. Usually, his stuttering is reservered for those moments when Matthew is uncomfortable with a situation (nervous, flustered, upset, etc.) Nervousness, however, runs often for the Canadian. His stuttering is less regular around those he is comfortable around.
✗ Speaking Up: Matthew is naturally soft-spoken; his voice never reaching higher than how he normally talks unless he blatantly yells at someone.
✗ Stubbornness: Matthew's stubborn streak is a bit different from most. He is stubborn in his decisions, but more so in the way that he wants to help those around him. If you're hungry but say you don't want anything? Doesn't matter. Matthew wil be up and on it despite protests.[/ul]
Fears:
✗ Hospitals: Ever since his mother's death, Matthew has always blamed it on the hospital. The mere mention of having to go to a hospital is enough to send the Canadian into a panic attack. Needless to say, he avoids them at all costs.
✗ Confrontation: Sticking up for a friend is one thing. Sticking up for himself? Unheard of. Matthew has a fear of confronting people and will nearly always let things play out. Be it if he is being bullied, has to confront a teacher about a grade, or asking someone for help.
✗ Losing a Friend or Loved One: Matthew has already lost his mother and constantly fears for those around him. When told that someone he knows has gone to a hospital, the Canadian has an almost uncontrolable fear that they are dead or on their death bed.[/ul]
History: Matthew came from a good family, albeit one that had it's fair share of issues.
His mother had died when he was six years-old. Having always been somewhat frail, she fell extremely ill and was transported to the local hospital. Matthew and his brother had been at school during the time and their father had taken it upon himsellf to go pick them up. By the time they had reached the hospital, she had already passed away.
Devastated, the Canadian cried for days and weeks on end at the mere mention of their mother. If it were not for his brother at his side through this time, Matthew may have completely broken down. Alfred and Matthew always shared this special bond, even in their younger years. It was this point in his life that changed him, however. Matthew became quieter and more insecure. Incredibly shy, uneasy, and nervous about many things. And as years went on, things kept changing.
When Matthew was old enough to do chores, he did them often. Cooking and cleaning were one of the few things that kept the memory of his mother alive. The Canadian would conduct chores and then retreat to his room to read or study. Matthew always carrying around a stuffed animal. A polar bear he named Kumajiro, which was made by his mother.
During this time, Matthew was now remaining in the shadows of his brother. And for a time, he didn't mind it. Alfred would often times recieve the credit for work done in the house, even if the elder attempted to protest. And those rare times when the Canadian did speak up were met with their father stating how horrible it was that Matthew would attempt to take credit for his brother's work.
It started at chores and went on to homework; then, taking the rap for things he had never done. Seemingly, it was as if no matter what Matt did, he could never gain recognition for anything (unless it was something bad, of course.) And for the first time in his life, he had had enough of leaving in the shadows. His break coming in the form of a letter with acceptance and a full scholarship to World W Academy.
In his upset, he quickly packed his things and announced he was leaving. He could barely look his brother in the eye as he told him he was moving half way across the world to go to school. Not even a month later, Matthew was standing at the door saying his good-byes. His father catching him at the door and hugging him close. Telling him that he would always love him, no matter what Matthew did in life.
At this moment, the Canadian realized what he had done: He was leaving his home on a whim induced by anger. A decision he should have thought more clearly about. It was too late to over-turn his decision, everything was set and the game had begun.
Solemnly, Matthew left the place he called home with tears in his eyes. Fear of what awaited him in this new setting away from everything he knew...

Restless.
Quite possibly, that was the best adjective to describe Canada's state of sleep (or lack thereof;) constantly clouded by what-if's and how's.
What if we don't make it out? What if something happened that effected our people? How will they be effected without them being present?

After exhausting himself mentally, the blond allowed himself to fall into a dreamless sleep. In this situation, possibly the best kind of sleep imaginable. No one wanted to see or think about what could possibly happen in this mansion when there was no need to. These times where one could sleep peacefully were sacred and should be enjoyed as much as possible.
It didn't take long before Canada awoke with a start, though. He jolted up and looked around his surroundings. Everyone seemed to be sound asleep. England had that ever-present scowl on his face and France was moaning in his sleep for some reason. Smiling at the two elder nations, he took notice of the empty bed between England and himself and frowned.
That was what made him snap out of his slumber. Only made even more clear when he saw a flash of blond hair and the sound of creaking stairs.
Sharing the largest border in the world, Canada and America were very in-tune with each other. A nation could only explain the feeling of being torn from the other as a sort of continental drift. And it was at these times that Canada was extremely grateful for this. It allowed him to keep a watchful eye on his often rash and over-energetic brother during times of need.
Not wasting another moment, Canada slowly got out of bed, careful not to disturb Kumajiro who was sleeping around his head. No sense in bringing the bear along. He would be safer with the others.
He made his way to the door, picking up his bow and quiver. He strung the quiver around his back and placed the his arm in between the bow and string, effectively carrying it on his shoulder. Not even bothering putting his shoes on. He had to hurry. What was America thinking going off by himself?
Slowly, he followed America from a save distance. Never getting too close for fear of being spotted. All he wanted to do was make sure that his brother didn't get into any trouble. When America would turn a corner, Canada would quickly rush for that corner and wait for him to turn again. Same for stairs all the way until they reached the bottom floor.
The basement? he thought to himself.
The Canadian knew very well how much America hated dark places. Especially, basements. That's what made this excursion so odd to him.
Just as slow as he had tailed the American before, he made his way up behind the other and spoke almost in a whisper. "A-America?"
[/blockquote]
